Working with a family visa in Hungary?

A foreigner with a residence permit for family reunification is entitled to work only if his or her residence permit was issued based on a so-called single application procedure.

However, it should be noted that if the foreigner wishes to enter into employment in Hungary, this must be reported to the regional directorate of the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing according to the place of living of the foreigner, and a single permit for employment must be claimed. In this so-called single application procedure, to determine whether or not to support the foreigner’s employment in Hungary, the government agency (kormányhivatal) in the county (or in Budapest) located at the future place of employment is tasked to perform the proceedings in the first instance, and the ministry in charge of employment and labor in the second instance. In this case, it is not necessary to obtain a special work permit.

So, if someone is here with a residence permit for family reunification purposes, it is not impossible for them to work, but for this, it is necessary to carry out the appropriate type of procedure, and it is also obligatory to attach a great number of documents, forms, and documents. We do not recommend anyone to take up work ignoring the rules, as this may lead to the deportation of the foreigner and her/his family and banning them from the territory of the EU. Getting a work permit in the single permit procedure can be complicated, thus to engage an attorney specialized in this field of law might be inevitable.
