Our true speciality, where we have unparalleled expertise, is in international claims for damages, an area which very few other offices deal with. These include cases in which there is some foreign element, such as accidents abroad, cases where foreigners are injured in Hungary, or even where damage is caused to Hungarian citizens or companies and the laws of a foreign country have to be applied.

Thanks to our knowledge of foreign languages and environments, together with our extensive experience in cross-border compensation cases, my office is able, where the laws of the given country allow, to represent its clients directly in dealings with

• foreign partners,
• parties responsible for causing damage,
• or with insurance companies.

We also make wide use of the legal norms of the European Union and apply them regularly in the course of our work.

Our background in international compensation cases

It is hard to list all of the various countries involved in the cross-border compensation cases we have represented over the last ten years, but the list includes American, Canadian, French, British, Irish, Dutch, Belgian, German, Austrian, Italian, Spanish, Greek, Chinese, Egyptian, Brazilian and Bosnian cases. We work extremely closely, for example, with a law firm in Versailles, which is run by a very nice French colleague who I went to university with in Paris.

In addition to Hungarian, my office represents its clients in the realisation of any type of international claim for damages in three other languages: English, French and Russian.

Compensation cases in which we can help you

Some of the typical cases in which we can help you, in both out-of-court and litigation procedures:

• traffic accidents that happened abroad (including accidents while in, or caused by, a car, ferry, bus, train or airplane),
• domestic road accidents caused by a vehicle with a foreign registration plate, insignia or registration,
• other types of accidents that happened abroad (e.g. sports accidents or falling down the stairs in a hotel),
• representation in cases of injury or damage to health suffered while working abroad (accidents at work, industrial accidents abroad, including cases
  • where the work carried out abroad is organised through a Hungarian employment agency,
  • and where the accident happens while travelling to or from the foreign place of employment),
• the travel insurance provider is not willing to pay the costs of foreign treatment, or tries to recover an amount already paid out from the insured person,
• the insurance company refuses to pay, even though in accordance with the terms of the travel insurance contract, a significant amount would be payable,
• cases of damage occurring during international freight transport or forwarding.
